New: Record the Whole Conversation

August 06, 2012

We have added a new API to record the whole phone conversation!

Monitor is a new middle block that we have introduced to accomplish this. Once you have used the Monitor API in your call flow, you can continue with using other IVR APIs. When the call finally ends, you will get a notification, which will provide you the MP3 recording in “monitor_url”.

Following is the classic Customer Helpline example which we have extended.

PS: Don’t be confused by Record API, which is used for a one-off recording, like a voicemail.

Send and Receive Fax with Hoiio API

June 22, 2012

Still using a fax machine because you have to deal with business partners that only accept faxed documents? Now you can build apps that can send/receive fax using Hoiio’s Fax API.

Developers can use the new Fax API to send fax to over 200 countries, and also to receive fax via Hoiio numbers. We support  sending/receiving fax using PDF format. Note that in order to receive fax, you have to configure your Hoiio number and set the mode to “fax”.

The rates for our Fax API is the same as our Voice API – by per minute usage. You can check the cost of sending/receiving fax using our rate API or from our pricing page.

Receive Incoming SMS (2-way, Interactive)

May 15, 2012

We have released one of the most asked for request – receive incoming SMS.

You can read up about the new API here.

Unlike other APIs, there isn’t a new API endpoint. Instead, Hoiio will send you a notification whenever we receive an SMS. In other words we will POST to your server the message, the sender’s phone number, and other details.

The pricing is 1 cent for each SMS received.

PS: Currently only US is supported. Work is in progress for other countries.

Subscribe to Numbers via New APIs

February 13, 2012

Subscribe to Hoiio Numbers so that users can call-in to your application.

For users to call your application, you will need to provide them a Hoiio Number. Previously subscribing to a Hoiio Number has to be done manually via the Developer Portal, now we have added APIs that let your application subscribe Hoiio Numbers automatically. This means you can now subscribe to Hoiio Numbers on the fly and create applications where each user can have their own Hoiio Numbers!

The process of subscribing to a Hoiio Number is as follows: you first ask for a list of available Hoiio Numbers for a certain country, then tell us the number you want to subscribe to. You can extend an existing subscription by subscribing again.

Record Voice Messages Over The Phone

December 27, 2011

We have released a new IVR feature – Record API!

With Record API, developers can now use this new middle block in an IVR call flow. After a voice message is recorded, Hoiio will pass the URL of the recording (via the record_url parameter) to your web server via notifications (specified in your notify_url parameter). Refer to the documentation for the details.

If you have wanted to create a voicemail system, now is the time with Hoiio.
